I AM a researcher at the Institute of Football Studies in Preston, looking at football and its supporters in the North West of England between 1946 and 1985.
My project will attempt to explain the relationship between football clubs and their local communities, the importance of football clubs in expressions of local/regional pride, and the place of football in the lives of those who once did, but no longer, attend matches.
As part of my research, I aim to interview football supporters in the North West who attended matches regularly in the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Could I appeal for people who would be willing to volunteer for such interviews? Those who take part will not incur any travel, cost or undue inconvenience, and will only need to give up an hour of their time.
