NEARLY 200 people queued for two hours in the freezing cold outside a store to get their hands on a Teletubbies toy.

The crowds waited outside Mothercare World, Griffin Park, Blackburn, for the TV toys - Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po - which are in hot demand.

Many disappointed people were turned away after the 110 toys delivered to the store sold out in half an hour.

The toys, launched following the huge success of the Teletubbies TV show, have been virtually impossible to find in East Lancashire and hundreds of people have been put on waiting lists by toy shops.

Irene Robinson, sales manager for Mothercare World, said: "We have never seen anything like this before at the store. It was crazy. Everyone was desperate to get them, probably because kids want them for Christmas.

"People were queuing outside from 7.45am. They had warm clothing on and some brought flasks of coffee. People had heard by word of mouth that we were getting them delivered and the phone never stopped ringing.

"Ever since the Teletubbies came on TV people have been going mad for them. I think children can relate to them because they use baby-talk."

The store handed out tickets to the first 110 people in the queue, guaranteeing them a Teletubby, and there will be another delivery next Thursday.
