NON-LEAGUE scoring sensation Kevin Henderson is gunning for a football league career - with Burnley.

The 23-year-old Morpeth Town striker was hoping to impress manager Chris Waddle during his three day trial at Turf Moor this week.

And Clarets fans will get the chance to watch Henderson in action tonight when he lines up for Burnley Reserves against Stockport County at Turf Moor (7.15pm).

Henderson has smashed a breathtaking 21 goals in 13 appearances for Morpeth this season, and that sort of goal-power has attracted the attentions of Scunthorpe, York and Carlisle.

"My ambition is to play in the Football League and I will be trying my hardest to impress Chris Waddle," said Henderson.

"I would love to play football for a living. It is very exciting coming to Burnley because of the Chris Waddle connection."

Henderson began his career with village side Amble before Unibond League outfit Whitley Bay spotted his scoring potential.

"I went to Whitley Bay on a contract but it turned sour for me there.

"When Morpeth came in for me I was very grateful. "The move from Burnley came out of the blue really. The manager at Morpeth (Peter Feenan) knew that Chris Waddle was looking for somebody up front and spoke to Burnley.

"They have watched me a few times and then asked to come over a trial."

Henderson is currently working full time for a building society in Northumberland, and recognises it would prove a gamble if he is handed the chance of league football.

"It would have to be a good offer to leave home and give up a full-time job," he added.

"But I'm determined to make the most of my three days at Burnley. I will be trying my best to make a big impression - hopefully it will be good enough to impress Chris Waddle." Burnley are expected to field a string reserve line-up tonight with Jamie Hoyland, Marco Gentile, Glen Little and Nigel Gleghorn all expected to get a run-out.

Burnley take on Wrexham in the first round of the FA Youth Cup at Turf Moor on Friday, November 7 (7.15pm).

That means the B team fixture against Everton B the following day is now postponed. The A team fixture at Stoke, also on November 8, has also been postponed. There are no new dates for either fixtures.

The first round draw for the Auto Windscreens Shield will take place on Thursday, November 20 and will be broadcast live on Virgin Radio. The final will be played at Wembley on Sunday, April 19 1998.
