THE race is on to complete a bit of unfinished business at Golborne St Thomas's Church.
Something the community has been awaiting for around 150 years!
And now fund-raisers have set their sights on 1999 - a milestone in the history of St Thomas's - when the church will be completed.
Janet Fletcher, chairman of the Capstone Project building fund, explained how St Thomas's has waited almost a century and a half for its finishing touches.
She explained how the plan is to add a two storey meeting room to St Thomas's on land originally set aside for a south aisle when the church was built in 1849.
Janet said:"The south aisle was never built but the land it was meant to be on has been set aside since then.
"In 1926 the Lady Chapel was built with a temporary wall (now leaking!) and now we are hoping by 1999 we'll have built a two storey meeting room which we hope will also be used by the community."
The extension will be built to match the original stonework.
You can help put the finishing touches to St Thomas's by supporting fund-raising projects such as the November 1 Gift Day.
Trips up the bell tower, an organ recital, songs by the school choir plus details of the planned work will be featured from 9.30am-4.30pm.
