WITH regard to the new Xanadu complex planned for Leigh, I really do not see how anyone locally can be in support of its construction.
Most local people have at some time gained enjoyment from the area of land it is to be built. There are so few green areas of land left, and so few places for children to play and walk their dogs, that surely no-one can be happy at the thought of still more land being destroyed.
From the information I have seen, the Xanadu complex will be a very expensive luxury enjoyed by a select few. It will bring pollution of all kinds and will be an hideous blot on what's left of our landscape.
Whoever is responsible for this area of land should re-think their move because once green fields have been destroyed they cannot be replaced.
No-one can guarantee that Xanadu will be eternally popular. It is more likely to be a temporary fad, whereas an area of green will be enjoyed for generations to come.
