ST HELENS racing supremo Andy Middlehurst (pictured) has become the first person to win the British Saloon Car Championship three years in a row.
Andy managed to take the honours despite a serious crash at 100 mph which could have left him seriously injured. But luck was on Andy's side and he managed to walk away without a scratch. The crash came about after Roger Moen (driving for Honda) crashed into Andy sending him backwards into the barriers at 100mph, as a result Andy failed to win the Manufacturers crown for Nissan.
In 1995 and 1996 Andy won the championship in the Nissan Skyline GTR, with 18 race victories in two years. In 1997 the rules changed and turbo cars were banned, so a late deal with Nissan Motorsport provided Andy with a Nissan Primera GT. This year he score seven race victories (three at Silverstone, and one each at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Pembrey and Snetterton).
The Nissan Motorsport Primera will be at the Motor Show on the Nissan Stand next week on Motorsport day. From there the car can then be viewed at the Nissan Showroom in Jackson Street, St Helens.
ANOTHER big attraction at the Middlehursts' showroom over the coming weeks will be the launch of the Nissan Skyline GTR, Nissan's new super car. Middlehursts' have won the contract to be sole supplier of the 100 Skylines coming into the UK.
