ORGANISATIONS in St Helens and townsfolk are being invited to take part in the St Helens Council's Service of Remembrance on Sunday, November 9, at the war memorial in Victoria Square.
In addition the council is again backing a Royal British Legion nationwide campaign for a two minute silence to be observed following Remembrance Sunday by holding the event at the Cenotaph on Tuesday, November 11. Last year support was substantial from commerce, industry, institutions and people from all walks of life.
The two minute silence will be attended by the Mayor of St Helens, Councillor John Mealor, councillors and the council's chief officers. And it is hoped the silence will also be observed by members of the public.
All organisations taking part in Remembrance Sunday are asked to assemble at Birchley Street car park between 10.15 and 10.25am. The march will begin at 10.25am prompt from the car park to Victoria Square via College Street, Baldwin Street and Cotham Street.
A parade marshal will liaise with the police and one representative from each organisation should report to him at 10.10am.
The Mayor and other councillors will join the organisations in Victoria Square.
Following a short service, wreaths will be laid on the Cenotaph by the Mayor and Council Leader Mike Doyle, on behalf of the people of St Helens, and then by various organisations.
A march past will take place following the ceremony when the Mayor will take the salute on the Town Hall steps.
