A NEW service for older people with learning difficulties has been launched in Leigh.

Based at the Orchards Day Centre in Chatham Street, the service offers facilities such as a drop-in centre, day trips, advice clinics, leisure activities and access to an optician.

These facilities are available between 9am-3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Assistant Director of Social Services Joe Blott officially launched the service at the day centre.

Day centre manager Helen Scargill said: "Our researches and the pilot project have shown clearly that these new facilities are very important to our service users and make a considerable difference to the quality of their lives.

"From here on, we intend to go from strength to strength in providing opportunities for local people to widen their horizons supported by caring professionals."
