THE world's first supersonic car, Thrust SSC, built with help from East Lancashire engineers, has returned home.
Travelling slower than the 763.035mph it achieved with fighter pilot Andy Green at the wheel in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, Thrust crossed the Atlantic, arriving at Stansted Airport, Essex.
It was greeted by project director Richard Noble, with a bottle of champagne as he met members of the team travelling with the car.
The size of the 10 tonne car meant the world's largest commercial all-cargo aircraft, the Antonov 124, was needed to transport it and its 80 tonnes of support equipment.
