CHRIS Waddle has turned to England manager Glenn Hoddle in a bid to lift Burnley away from the foothills of Division Two.
Burnley were due to face Walsall at Turf Moor today searching for only their second league win in 14 starts.
Waddle revealed that, since his Turf Moor appointment last July, he has kept in close touch with the England supremo and has asked the advice of Coventry's Ron Atkinson and Arthur Cox, his former manager at Newcastle United.
Waddle said: "They've all got experience on tap and it would be silly not to ask to speak to them on a regular basis.
"I've spoke to Glenn, Big Ron and Arthur and they've all given me great encouragement since I've started the job at Burnley.
"All three have achieved great things in the game and they have an awful lot of knowledge.
"They've all said the same to me, that it will take time to develop the team.
"We are not getting embarrassed or hammered every week and I believe we are very close.
"I'm not down about our position because I know it will click and we will start climbing the table." Meantime, Damian Matthew has rejected a bid from Notts County to take the transfer-listed midfielder on loan.
And Jamie Hoyland has turned down a proposed £25,000 move to Shrewsbury over personal terms.
Matthew confirmed: "Notts County asked whether I would be interested in going out there on loan but, with no disrespect to them, I still believe I can play in the Second Division or higher."
Matthew slapped in a transfer request six days ago after he was consistently overlooked for a first team place by Waddle after being axed following the 1-1 derby draw with Preston North End at Turf Moor in September.
"It is pretty obvious that Chris Waddle doesn't want me because I'm on the transfer list.
"I respect the manager has made his decision but I now need a manager who has total belief in me as player.
Matthew added: "I accept I will have to play first team football away from Burnley now unless there is an injury-crisis.
"That is a big disappointment to me but I will continue to work hard at my game and hope things improve."
Hoyland contacted Shrewsbury to decline their offer but Gay Meadow boss Jake King hasn't give up all hope of landing the Burnley man, even though the deal looks dead at the moment.
