LITTLE Jennie Jackson, who dressed as young Kitchener during the First World War and raised £4,000, has died aged 89.
Jennie, married name Flynn, had lived at Dove Court Nursing Home for a year, coming originally from the Brunshaw area of Burnley. She died on Saturday.
During the 1914-18 war her mother, Kate, dressed her at young Kitchener and they collected enough money to buy a field ambulance.
Her mother went on to become head of the women's section of the Royal British Legion in Burnley.
Charles Schofield, chairman of Burnley branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "It was a tremendous achievement for one little girl. I don't know how much that amount would equate to in today's money, but it must be an awful lot."
Mrs Flynn's funeral is on Saturday at Burnley Crematorium. She leaves a niece.
