FIRST Division Crewe Alexandra today admitted their interest in Turf Moor striker Andy Cooke.

Gresty Road assistant manager Neil Baker confirmed to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We've contacted Burnley and made a firm enquiry about Andy Cooke.

"But they turned us down flat and said there is nothing doing. It seems they are they are not interested in selling him to us."

Crewe boss Dario Gradi tried to sign Cooke two years ago before Burnley snapped up the centre-forward in a £40,000 deal from Welsh non-league side Newtown.

Burnley would now expect to get at least £500,000 for the striker if they decided to sell.

Cooke scored Burnley's late winner in Saturday's 2-1 win over Walsall at Turf Moor.
