DEFENDER Steve Davis looked ahead to tonight's clash with Burnley at Kenilworth Road and admitted: "I'd love play to play for Burnley again."

The ex-Burnley skipper lines-up against his old club with Luton aiming to bring the Clarets' six-match unbeaten League run to a prompt halt.

Davis said: "Although I'm playing for Luton Town now there is nothing as special as playing for Burnley.

"I look back on my four seasons at Turf Moor with very fond memories.

"Yes I do miss the place, what footballer wouldn't, and I'd love to think that one day I will pull on a claret and blue jersey again.

"It is a special club with special fans and they should be playing in a much higher division.

"What other club could attract more than 9,000 fans to a home game when they are bottom of Division Two!

"When I went up there last season with Luton the fans were so welcoming towards me and I'll always remember them for that.

"I always had a special relationship with them and I'm sure that still exists. "I will be going over to clap them at some stage tonight and I hope they still remember me."

Davis moved to Kenilworth Road for £750,000 in August 1995 - a Turf Moor transfer record. He added: "I understand things have changed a bit at Turf Moor and there are not many players left from when I was there.

"But I do speak to Marlon Beresford regularly and I've warned him I am due a goal!"

With Gerry Harrison still ruled out, player-manager Chris Waddle will stick with the same 11 that defeated Walsall 2-1.

That means veteran Gordon Cowans - Burnley's man of the match at Turf Moor last Saturday - will make third senior appearance of the season. Waddle said: "They all played well against Walsall so I will be naming the same side.

"It's nice to go to Luton unbeaten in six League matches, and I thought we were full value for our win against Walsall.

"But Luton will provide another tricky test for us tonight.

"They have also hit form after a poor start, but if we can get a win tonight then we can go above them.

"We are steadily building things up now and it would be superb to go into the Blackpool game at the weekend still unbeaten."

Burnley Reserves are in Pontin's League Cup action at Oldham Athletic tomorrow.
