THE number of company failures in the region has dropped.

Receivers were called in to 33 companies in the North West between July and September.

This compares favourably with the 48 during the previous quarter, according to figures from accountants KPMG.

"The improvement in the latest quarter's figures is very welcome news," said Peter Terry, KPMG's head of corporate recovery in the region.

"However this performance will need to be sustained over the next few months if the year-on-year figure is to fall."

Nationally the number of receiverships dropped by 19 per cent.
