COUNCIL chiefs want reduced prices at off-peak times for local people at the Xanadu development.
And schools and other groups should benefit from the training provision planned for the snow centre.
Following concerns from local people about traffic and access to the new facility, council leader Peter Smith and his deputy Tom Sherratt approached the developers.
The pair suggested the matter of public transport to Xanadu be raised.
This would reduce traffic volumes and greatly improve the local public transport infrastructure.
Cllr Smith said: "Greenbank have responded in a very positive way on both issues raised with them.
"The development team is working to improve public transport and we shall work with the team, along with Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority to produce a satisfactory outcome.
"They have also confirmed their intention to encourage local people to take advantage of the snow centre through 'preferential pricing' and the importance which they attach to local schools use.
"No-one has seriously disputed the economic advantages that Xanadu will bring to the Leigh area.
"Certain groups have sought to distort and exaggerate, but together with the developers, the town can make sure we maximise all the benefits that the community stands to gain from an investment of this size and importance."
