AFTER reading the letter in The Journal from Mr David Morris, Conservative candidate for Hope Carr Ward, I laughed my socks off.

First with the remarks about losing space due to Labour. Does he forget how many works the Conservatives shut and demolished during their 18 years in office? That should have allowed a lot of space.

About wildlife that will be lost if Xanadu is built: I say will everybody living near the proposed Xanadu give up sending fumes out of their cars and stop smoking? These two items kill people as well as wildlife. And will everybody stop spraying insecticides in fields and gardens?

Then he says our local taxes are going up. In 18 years of Tory rule 15 new taxes were introduced, including the Poll Tax. And how many green belts were were lost under Tories?

Then he is asking Lawrence Cunliffe how long it will be before Leigh Infirmary's A&E unit will open. Does he again forget the Tories closed it and wanted to close Leigh Infirmary so we could all go to Wigan.

The Leigh Conservative Party never fought the closing with Mr Jarvis. The Tories also closed Atherleigh Hospital and Astley Hospital by not giving enough money to keep them open.

I am almost sure due to the Tories we were made to go in to Wigan Council. So I say to Mr Morris, look before you leap. And talking about Wigan, I see two Wiganers, Mr Chris Maile, a Green Party candidate and a Liberal Democrat are putting up in Hope Carr ward. I think they should both be interested in Wigan affairs and not tell Leigh people what to do. Also, a Wiganer, Mr Paul Thake, taking a video of Mr Jarvis's speech, another disgrace.

A true Leyther not a Wiganer.
