ON reading of the trial in America of Louise Woodward (LET, October 31) I am of the opinion that Mr and Mrs Eappen should be in the dock charged with negligence.

Whether or not Louise had any training in the care of children, it was asking for trouble to leave her in sole charge of little Matthew. A girl so young hasn't had enough experience to cope with problems rearing of somebody else's baby.

Had the trial taken place in England it would have been thrown out of court for lack of sufficient evidence.

It seems there were no witnesses to this tragedy, so how could any jury decide on a conviction?

The moral of this story is don't take a job abroad unless you've lived in the country long enough to learn of the culture, the customs and the legal system.
