LEIGH MR can look back on another Friday Night cracker.

But, at Woolston, the home side grabbed the goodies in a 20-16 thriller while MR came home with some satisfaction on three tries to two.

They began well with No 13 Stuart Littler leading a quickfire attack leading to a try for John Maxwell.

But Woolston battled back with four goals for 8-4 at the break.

Miners always looked dangerous with Peter Sharp linking sharply with the attack, prop Simon Wood and Nigel Casey bludgeoning every yard. But a look at the scoreboard showed 20-4.

Worse came with Gary Grainey carried off on his first game after injury. But that served to spur MR. Mike Devine sped 40 metres from Littler's break. Matt Irwin was nailed just short, but Lee Lomax sneaked in from acting half-back and Winston Sarsfield banged over the goal.

With full-time looming Sharp dived in for a try, inexplicably denied. But Miners powered again for Lomax to grab his second TD, Sarsfield again goaling.

Sadly, the seconds ticked away, giving Miners no chance to score dramatic winning points.
