LEIGH Folk Club has closed after 32 years.

And lack of sport is blamed for the closure.

A small group of loyal members supported the club over the past couple of year's at meetings held at St Joseph's Sodality Club.

But recent times have been lean and older followers might have longed for a return to the 60s era when traditional tunes echoed around the smoke-filled upstairs room at the Nelson in Bradshawgate.

A sad member told The Journal:"We owe thanks to the many organisers in the club's 32 continuous years - in particular Theresa Tooley who has struggled hard, against all odds, to keep the club open."
