FIREFIGHTERS came under attack from missile-throwing hooligans as they attempted to tackle a burning bonfire on Tuesday evening (Oct 28).
Members of Red Watch at Bury Fire Station were forced to call in police back-up when they responded to a call in Radcliffe. Arriving at the fire in Stand Lane, the crew was bombarded by missiles hurled by a group of youths standing nearby.
Several officers were hit by stones.
Police, including one dog handler, were called out to help the fire fighters. The thugs fled on their arrival.
Leading fireman Gary Costin confirmed that a "minor disturbance" did take place but that no fireman was injured and the arrival of the police allowed them to deal with the blaze.
