West Park 32 Netherhall 17 IT seemed that the advance in kick-off time to 2.30 caught at least one of the contenders in this NPI Cup tie unawares.

For visitors Netherhall were well on top and leading 10-3 after just half an hour. A Chris Glynn penalty from 40 metres after five minutes was quickly cancelled out with a try by centre Paul Atkinson from fly-half Andy Southwell's up-and-under and a West Park fumble. Full-back Carl Phillips converted and added a penalty.

As three o'clock arrived West Park's lethargy disappeared and after Glynn hit the post with a penalty attempt prop Steve Mannin was driven over for a try in the 35th minute, Glynn converting. Park were now on a roll and the three consecutive lines-out won by Gareth Rowe driven on by a pack in full flight saw hooker Steven Worsley scamper under the posts, Glynn again converting to complete a 14 points in five minutes scoring burst and a 17-10 half time lead.

A brilliant break by centre Carl Bibby from Martin Strett's pass and good support by second row Mark Potter put winger Dave Donovan over in the corner. West Park's forward play improved by the minute against the big visitors pack and their lead advanced to 25-10 with Glynns second penalty. Steve Bibby was stopped just short after forwards and backs had combined but Gareth Rowe picked up to score, Glynn being on target once again. The last minute of an entertaining match brought Netherhall a deserved consolation try by hooker Colin Rhodes, Phillips converting to at least make the journey back to Cumbria more bearable. Park will no doubt await to hear the identity of their next opponents in round four on November 22 but must now focus their attentions on preparation for Saturday's home league game with Aldwinians. Kick off 2.30pm.
