TWO would-be robbers were thwarted by an alert security guard.
The guard had just started his rounds at Carmel College, Prescot Road, at about 7pm on Thursday, Oct 30, when he heard a noise at the back of one of the blocks.
When he went to investigate he saw the two men and shouted at them. The intruders then ran past the guard and one struck him with what appeared to be a stick, causing him to drop his torch. He gave chase but couldn't catch the pair who ran out of the college entrance and headed towards Toll Bar.
The guard returned to the college and called the police then he noticed that the left sleeve of his jacket had been slashed although he was unhurt.
The intruders were both white, about 6ft tall and 18 to 20 years of age. The man with the stick had a thin face and a pointed nose, while his partner had short-cropped ginger hair and wore a dark tracksuit top.
