BURNLEY Reserves suffered defeat last night in their first game of the Pontins League Cup away at Oldham with the game being played at Stalybridge Celtic.
The Clarets took the lead on the half hour mark when Phil Eastwood latched on to a loose ball outside the area and his well struck shot sailed past Miskelly and into the roof of the net.
The Clarets lead lasted five minutes before a Toddy Orlygssonn free kick was headed on to the far post for Hughes to volley first time past Parks.
Oldham won the first of the group matches two minutes into the second period when Scott McNiven unleashed a left-footed 25-yard drive which Parks had no chance with, and the ball hit the back of the net via the right hand post
Colin Carr-Lawton and Glen Little both went close in the final minutes as the Clarets push for an equaliser they richly deserved.
Burnley: Parkes, Huxford, Heffernan, Robertson, Winstanley, Ford, Little, Matthew, Carr-Lawton, Eastwood, P Smith (C Smith).
