A MUMS' army has gone on the march to keep their children safe and secure.
The Kibble Community Action Group grew out of parents' anger at the dangers of speeding traffic and what they say is Burnley council's lack of investment in the area.
They intend to make road safety a priority and want to press for a 20mph limit on streets, especially in Hillingdon Road which has become a rat run for motorists and wagon drivers travelling to and from Brierfield.
Chairman Barbara Leyland said: "The roads have to be a priority. We've had cars going through garden fences and into gardens because they are being driven too quickly.
"People are annoyed that no matter what they have said no action has been taken round here.
"We want to know why all the council money goes into Daneshouse and the Stoops. Do we have to have riots before we can get anything done?
"Apparently we don't have the fatalities to warrant spending cash on road safety."
The action group has its first formal meeting tonight (Thursday) and is planning talks with the community development section of Burnley Council.
Added Mrs Leyland: "The houses round here are family homes, and there are two or three children in practically every house.
"People have ideas about controlling the traffic such as sleeping policemen and signs and having a 20 mph on Hillingdon Road.
"There was an official traffic check not so long ago, but it was done at a silly time - between 9.15am and 10.15am - because by then all the traffic for schools and the people driving to work had gone.
"We want this area to be safe and secure."
