BURY'S British and Commonwealth Flyweight boxing champion Ady Lewis has a great chance to make it a hat-trick of titles when he fights for the European crown next month.
The man they call the Mighty Atom takes on the French holder David Guerault at Bowlers, Trafford Park on Saturday, November 22, topping the bill in a show brought together by Frank Maloney's Pannix Promotion and Steve Foster's Viking Promotions.
Victory over the Frenchman would round off a superb 1997 for the unbeaten Lewis who picked up the British Flyweight crown with a points decision over Scotland's Keith Knox in January.
A successful defence against Mark Reynolds set the Tara Sports battler on the road to a Lonsdale belt for keeps and last month he showed just what a durable campaigner he is - recovering from a first round knockdown to clinch the Commonwealth title with a tenth round stoppage of Liverpool's highly-rated Peter Cushaw.
Something has to give in next month's showdown as Guerault, fifth in the WBC world rankings, also has a unbeaten professional record of ten victories, five inside the distance.
The Frenchman caused something of a surprise when he defeated Denmark's former champion Jesper Jensen by a tenth round knockout in Slagelse in June.
