BLACKBURN MP Jack Straw defended his stand on more pay for some teachers to combat a shortage in science and maths subjects.
But his comments enraged a teacher's union boss.
National Union of Teachers deputy general secretary Doug McAvoy said he found it difficult to "spot the difference between Government plans and Labour policy."
Mr Straw said there was no alternative.
