POLICE interrupted a half-time television film interview of a Blackpool fan in Saturday's Lancashire clash with Burnley when he made a one-fingered gesture at nearby Clarets' supporters.

The smartly-dressed man then faced the angry Burnley fans taunting them by waving and then kissing his Blackpool scarf.

Police officers appeared and the man was escorted from the ground. Match Commander Inspector Tony Pinder said: "He was ejected from the ground - thrown out because of his conduct.

"He was supposedly the Fan of the Week. Some film company brought him on to the touch line to do a presentation.

"My officers saw what he was doing and escorted him from the ground.''

Inspector Pinder described the fan's behaviour as "less than acceptable.''

Burnley supporters were among six people removed from the stadium.

Inspector Pinder said: "Some were throwing coins and other missiles.''

Thirteen others were arrested before, during and after the game for public order offences, including trying to get into the ground when drunk, criminal damage and one for being in possession of drugs.

"As usual the majority of people were well behaved. They had paid good money to come and watch a game of football and that is what they did.''

A club spokesman said a BBC film crew was on the ground but he did not know the identity of the so-called Fan of the Week.

It is understood that BBC 2 were filming a documentary about a Blackpool fan.

A BBC spokesman said they were unaware of the incident but would be making inquiries.
