A CARPET underlay firm is expanding across the Atlantic.
Duralay, based at Haslingden, has bought Sponge Cushion Inc, of Illinois in a £6 million deal.
The American firm manufactures sponge rubber underlays and employs 100 people.
The takeover by Duralay follows its acquisition of Airstep in Northern Ireland. "SCI has developed a good reputation in the contract market and we believe there are excellent opportunities to develop its position in the retail market," said Geoff Harrison, managing director of Duralay, which employs 320 people.
"The underlay market has consistently outperformed the carpet sector which has provided us with opportunities to expand our businesses into both the US and Northern Ireland."
Duralay was formed in May last year following a management buy-out from BBA Group plc. Latest figures show the firm achieved sales of £55 million in the year to May 31.
