BURGLARY is one of the major curses of our society. But in East Lancashire, our police are turning the tide.
Inside six months, the force has axed the number of burglaries by 11 per cent in five towns in our region. And in some areas they have been cut by more than half.
How has it been done?
It is the result of new police tactics that target the hard-core of repeat offenders and drug-users.
In short, they are giving the worst villains no rest and much less opportunity to commit crime.
Let them keep up the good work. The results speak for themselves and will do wonders for the peace of mind of community.
But let our police have the fullest back-up from the courts. It is no use them catching the criminals if the courts give them to freedom to re-offend.
Proper punishment as well as better detection must be part of the formula.
