BURY'S MPs are being asked to back a ban on hunting with dogs - even though success looks unlikely.
Councillors want David Chaytor and Ivan Lewis to support the move regardless as a matter of principle.
Members want them to vote in favour of a bill put forward by Worcester MP Michael Foster when it comes before Parliament later this month for its second reading.
This is despite Labour leaders not guaranteeing the bill enough time to pass through all its stages, to the fury of the anti-hunting lobby.
Tory leader David Higgin, at Wednesday's council meeting, suggested that the local authority merely note the bill, rather than ask for MP support.
Council leader Derek Boden said it was matter for people's conscience, although he personally thought it cruel and unnecessary.
The Tory amendment was overwhelmingly defeated.
