FIREMEN were attacked and the front window of their engine smashed as they tackled burning piles of rubbish at a travellers' camp.
The crew from Darwen station called for police assistance when the situation on the Old Cattle Market, off Sumner Street, Blackburn, turned ugly.
The travellers were burning about six piles of rubbish and copper wire for scrap metal.
