FOLLOWING the enforcement of the order against 'A-boards' outside shops, I would point out that Lancashire County Council, ably assisted by Blackburn Council, have introduced more hazards to the blind and disabled than all the traders put together.
First, there are the completely superfluous 'gates' erected in the town centre and, second, all the iron bollards which have sprung up like mushrooms all over the town, especially in the pedestrianised area around King William Street.
Another hazard, the sole responsibility of the Blackburn Council, is the wheelie bin.
On the day that the bins are emptied in any particular area, they are usually lined up against the side of the pavement.
After they have been emptied, the council workmen leave them all over the road and footpaths, some standing up and others lying down.
A case of bureaucratic "Do as I say, not as I do."
