TUBE officials were hunting for clues to the cause of an inferno which claimed the lives of at least 30 commuters.
As plastic surgeons prepared to operate on the most severely-burned survivors, an eerie quiet hung over King's Cross underground station in London.
The exact death toll remained unclear. London Fire Brigade reported 34 dead, Scotland Yard 32 and British Transport Police said 30.
