SPEEDING motorists in Lancaster and Morecambe are the first in the county to be targeted by hi-tech speed cameras.
Mobile camera and radar units - the first in the North West - were out at various spots across North Lancashire from yesterday.
The units use a radar to measure speed and anyone driving above the legal limit activates the camera automatically.
The installation of these state-of-the-art police cameras has the backing of Lancashire County Council as part of a joint bid to cut the number and severity of road casualties.
Ch Insp Ian Bell said: "We are committed to reducing road casualties and this equipment is the latest generation of speed cameras which will undoubtedly help us achieve this."
