THE first woman ever to hold the rank of sergeant major within the Lancashire Army Cadet Force is a Morecambe physiotherapist. Wendy Conroy-Clough, 24, who lives in the resort with her five-year-old daughter, has achieved this ranking after acting as Commanding Officer of the Morecambe Army Cadet Detachment. Wendy first joined as a cadet in 1988 and soon afterwards became the North West swimming champion and a rifle markswoman.
Her hard work saw her achieve the coveted Army Cadet Four Star Award whilst still a cadet corporal, first aid to St John ambulance standard and Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.
Last year she led a senior cadet exercise to MM- nster in Germany and this year has organised or assisted in various expeditions and exercises as well as attending the annual Lancashire Army Cadet Camp held at Rippon, Yorkshire.
She is currently looking forward to joining an army cadet visit to Euro Disney early next year.
