LANCASTER'S MP Hilton Dawson has made a 'boob' which put him on page three of a national newspaper. Hilton jokingly told a survey that he had never heard of the Spice Girls and featured in a Sun story as one of six MPs who were unaware of the all girl band. The article provoked stunned disbelief that Hilton knew nothing of Posh Spice, Mel B and the others but he reacted quickly to put the record straight.
Speaking from his Lancaster home Hilton said: "What I really, really want is for the Sun to get a sense of humour! The question I answered asked me to name my favourite Spice Girl. It came at the end of a lengthy survey about all aspects of music and my personal tastes. The answer I gave was honestly meant as an ironic joke. After all, with two teenage daughters in the family home it would be damn near impossible not to have heard of the Spice Girls."
He added: "I've been knocked out by the level of media interest in the survey sparked by the Sun article. This is obviously an example of girl power in action. They have certainly spiced up my life today!"
The MP went on to offer the band an invitation to his constituency.
"I'd like to extend an invitation to the Spice Girls to visit Lancaster and I'd be happy to show them the sites of our historic town."
In the story northern lass Mel B was named by Westminster's MPs as their favourite Spice Girl.
