POLICE in Preston today (Nov 13) launched a unique leaflet offering drug advice specifically for Asian communities. Lancashire Constabulary unveiled Islamic Law and Drugs - the first advice sheet of it's kind in the country - in a special ceremony at Hutton headquarters.
Chief Inspector Frank Harding, from Lancashire Partnership Against Crime, said the initiative had been welcomed by local religious leaders.
Under the slogan The Right To Know, The Knowledge To Choose, the leaflet gives a guide to drugs available and their associated dangers.
Chief Inspector Harding said: "We're looking to reap benefits including enhanced community relationships and a better understanding, especially for older members of the Islamic community."
The leaflets are sponsored by two leading North West-based Asian fashion companies Pricewise and Gemini Fashions and will be handed out through mosques, police stations and community centres.
