HUNDREDS of people packed into Preston Flag Market and at Leyland's Memorial on Sunday (Nov 9) to remember those who died for our country.
The old veterans of two world wars past and the many conflicts since, marched through the streets in proud but humble fashion in memory of their old pals who are no longer with us.
In Preston they were given a guard of honour from members of The Fourth Battalion, Queen's Lancashire Regiment and 202 Field Squadron Royal Engineers, who marched ahead.
The Lancastrian Brigade Band and Corps of Drums led the Cadets, along with members of St John Ambulance and other groups.
Rector of Preston Canon Ladds presided the Act of Remembrance with Monsignor O'Dea.
Standards remained raised throughout, until one lone bugler, as if to jog our common sense of grief, played out the Last Post.
It was a similar tale at the Memorial in Leyland, where people crowded round to share their grief.
The gloomy morning was brightened only by a show of shiny medals and colourful standards from various regiments across the country.
The Leyland procession was led by South Ribble chief executive Phil Halsal, mayor Brenda Wilson and MP David Borrow.
