CHILDREN could be saved from serious injury if speed limits outside schools were cut.
So says local MP David Chaytor, who has backed a parliamentary motion calling for the limit to be brought down from 30mph to 20mph.
Mr Chaytor said the motion he had signed was of vital concern to parents.
"Many tell me how concerned they are for their children's safety on their way to and from school," he said.
"I am convinced that a reduction in speed limits would significantly reduce the number and severity of accidents involving children."
The Bury North MP added: "I shall be writing to all head teachers in Bury asking for their comments and suggestions on how we can step up this very important campaign for children's safety.
"I very much hope the Government will act quickly to allow local authorities to introduce 20mph speed limits wherever appropriate."
