A STRETCH of the M57 motorway near the Prescot turn-off was closed to Traffic for almost 24 hours after an accident in which a man was killed.
The accident happened at 7.10pm on Thursday, November 6 when the man walked across three lanes of the unlit southbound carriageway, climbed over the central barrier and was hit by a car travelling at 70 mph on the third lane of the northbound carriageway.
Traffic police immediately closed off the stretch of motorway and it was only re-opened the following afternoon. The man has since been identified as Thomas Joseph Duffy, aged 48, from Stockbridge Village.
