TROUBLE spots on Blackpool's roads are being targeted by county councillors with a new series of safety measures.
The biggest works will start this winter at the junction of Red Bank Road, All Hallows Road and Blackpool Road in Bispham where a mini-roundabout will be put in to calm traffic travelling along Red Bank Road and to improve safety for vehicles emerging from All Hallows Road.
Safety for cyclists will be improved by the provision of a signed cycle route between Blackpool and Cleveleys using less well-trafficked roads.
On the A584 promenade road at Starr Gate a lighted tube will be put on the bend to guide motorists, particularly those travelling in a southward-bound direction.
And, at the junction of School Lane and Midgeland Road, South Shore, textured surfacing and speed bars will be put in to reduce accidents caused by emerging traffic.
County Councillor Richard Toon, chairman of the highways and transportation committee, said: "We have approved these schemes today as part of our ongoing campaign to improve road safety in Lancashire.
"We are committed to ensuring that the limited funds we receive from the Government are used effectively, treating the maximum number of sites with poor accident records."
