BREAD-winning MP Lawrence Cunliffe has applauded moves to keep traditional loaf limits.
Leigh MP Mr Cunliffe slammed half-baked ideas to introduce unit pricing throughout Europe.
Critics feared a change to the current prescribed quantities regulations could have led to unscrupulous producers the chance of inflating underweight loaves.
They felt it would have been possible to put more air in a 350g dough mix to make it look like a standard 400g loaf.
Mr Cunliffe said:"The proposals would have put the traditional British loaf in jeopardy by bringing to an end regulations that have protected consumers well for many years.
"Bread is a cheap and highly nutritious part of a staple diet and consumers don't want to have to worry about whether the weight of what they are buying has gone up or down. Shoppers simply shouldn't have to label-watch to check weights."
The European Commission turnaround came after pressure from the British government's Department of Trade and Industry.
