THE superb achievements of a number of St Helens apprentices from Waterside training Limited were rewarded during an open evening attended by parents and sponsors.
Martin Riley, a refractory bricklayer, was sponsored by Building Services and became their first-ever Modern Apprentice to achieve an NVQ Level 3 certificate. He is now continuing his studies and skills training and has also started the second year of his HNC in Construction.
A group of 16 apprentices also received praise for their work in Engineering and Plant Process Technology. The group was sponsored by Pilkington UK Ltd., Float Manufacturing and Watson Street Works; Owens Corning Building Products UK Ltd.; Triplex Safety Glass and Ravenhead Company Ltd.
One of the 16, Robert Darlington (19) was named as Waterside Apprentice of the Year and presented with a trophy, vouchers to the value of £200 and a selection of tools.
And it wasn't just the apprentices themselves getting in on the prize-winning action. Kathryn Kirby, a training administrator with Waterside, has just become the first staff member to achieve an NVQ at Level 3 after completing her course in business administration after just 12 months of study.
