Kettering Town 1 Morecambe 1 LOWLY Kettering, who have yet to win a game this season, snatched a point from travel weary Morecambe at the weekend.

The Shrimps spent an insufferable six hours on the motorway before the match, which left them jaded whereas Kettering looked hungry for points.

The home side took the lead in the 27th minute after a good spell of pressure inspired by midfielder Chris Pearson.

Keeper Andy Banks dropped a deep cross into the box under pressure and Pearson was the first to pounce on the loose ball.

Banks redeemed himself minutes later with great saves from Pearson, who single-handedly tormented the Morecambe defence.

It took the half-time break and a few stern words from manager Jim Harvey before the Shrimps lifted their game.

John Norman was the first to respond to the challenge with a brilliant solo run that took him past three defenders before he slotted the ball past the keeper.

The 49th minute goal gave Morecambe plenty of time to set their sights on victory and the chances came thick and fast. Mike Bignall should have made more of chances which came his way and Brian Healy saw his header spin across the goaline.

Substitute Kenny Takano was very lively when he came on for Shirley in the 74th minute and should have had a penalty when he was brought down in the box.

Then the referee ruled out an Ian Monk goal claiming Bignall had fouled the Kettering keeper.

Although Morecambe had dominated the second half but it was the home side who nearly snatched it at the death when Peter Castello held his head in shame after blasting his shot wide of an open goal.

Morecambe: Banks, Burns, Hughes, Mayers, McKearney, Grimshaw (Drufford) Monk, Healy, Ceraolo (Bignall) Norman, Shirley (Takano).
