LITTER doesn't stand a chance when John Macaulay is around.
Mr Macaulay wages war on any rubbish which finds its way into Burnley.
He enlists helpers from the community, schools and Burnley Council to help tackle the town's grotspots.
Mr Macaulay, of Burdett Street, Burnley, has organised several clean ups this year.
The latest was in the Accrington Road area and the grounds of Wood Top School, where Mr Macaulay is chairman of governors.
Pupils from the school's reception class helped pick up rubbish while Burnley Council's environmental officer Ted Kelly provided black bags, litter-pickers and a skip.
Mr Macaulay said: "It is good for children to get involved because if they learn to look after their local area when they are young they will do the right thing when they are older."
Mr Macaulay has entered his litter-busting campaign, known as Keep Burnley Clean, in this year's Lancashire Evening Telegraph Grimewatch Awards.
All kinds of environmental schemes are eligible, from tree-planting projects to recycling programmes.
There are only a few weeks left until the closing date of December 19 so contact Grimewatch co-ordinator Jennie Kernot on 01254 264317 or 01254 678678 ext 244 for more details and an entry form.
