THE shooting of Burnley PC Mark Driver in a Post Office raid four years ago will be highlighted in a one-off Crimewatch UK programme after the crime was linked to two similar attacks.

"Crimewatch: Still Unsolved'' will focus on cases that remain frustratingly hard to unravel when it is screened on BBC1 at 10pm on December 2.

The robbery, during which PC Driver was shot in the leg, has already featured on a previous Crimewatch along with one in Yorkshire, during which security guard Graham Jowitt was shot.

At the time the robberies could not be linked but detectives are now able to link them all as a result of a further armed attack in Rotherham. Central to the inquiries is a green Citroen Xantia, later found burnt out at Earby.

Another car involved in the Rotherham attack was a red Toyota Celica which detectives believe may have belonged to one of the gang members.

A £40,000 reward still stands and police are hopeful that a Crimewatch viewer may have information which can bring about the arrest of the man who shot PC Driver and the security guard.

PC Driver, now based at Padiham, spent weeks off work and had to undergo surgery and intensive physiotherapy.

He was injured when he and colleague PC Paul Ogden went to investigate a robbery at Merton Street Post office in Stoneyholme.

Both officers were later presented with awards for their outstanding bravery.
