ALL-ROUNDER Charles Dagnall will be Great Harwood's professional in the Vaux Ribblesdale League next season, taking over from axed Aussie Chris Killen.

The 6 feet four inches former professional at Walshaw is still only 21 but has packed in a lot of experience.

He has represented the England under-19 side and has played for various county second teams, including Lancashire, Kent and Middlesex.

Dagnall also plays regularly for Cumbria in Minor Counties cricket.

Harwood chairman Steve Pilling said: "Charles still wants to be a professional cricketer but he has been involved with his studies at UMIST where his finals in chemistry are coming up.

"We are happy that we have signed a talented young cricketer with something to prove and we have been very impressed by his enthusiasm.

"He lives nearby in Bolton and, as everyone knows, there are problems with overseas players these days as they have to have played first class cricket and the fees involved can be too much for Ribblesdale League clubs."

Last season, Dagnall took 60 wickets at an average cost of 15 for Walshaw and also hit 650 runs (average 40) in a summer when a number of Bolton Association games were lost to the weather.

He also took 20 wickets for Cumbria at a cost of 16 apiece.

Dagnall is a fully-qualified NCA coach and spent the 1994-95 winter in Australia. He was head coach at Geelong GS, Melbourne, and played for Geelong and Newtown.
