I AM in favour of preventing accidents and, in some cases, of road-calming measures.
Restricting road width is a measure which creates hazards and slows the flow of traffic.
Road humps, or "sleeping policemen" are much more effective, and more sensible, they cut down speed.
I saw a van going too fast in St Hubert's Road, Great Harwood, towards a hump in the road. I heard a clatter, and saw that it had lost part of the exhaust system.
That would cost money to repair, and the owner would be more careful when approaching these humps in future.
EDWIN LAX, James Avenue, Great Harwood.
