Bold Miners 38 Leigh East 4 BOLD took some time to shake off the cobwebs after a lay-off of more than a month.

But once Darren Anders had opened the scoring after 20 minutes there was no looking back.

Young loose-forward Phil Hewitt was next on the scoresheet when he charged over for a great try.

Skipper Dave Davies, who inspired throughout, finished off some fine handling to score in the corner.

And Brian Connaire bulldozed his way over to make it 16-nil at the break.

The Miners, still not firing on all cylinders went further ahead when hooker Gary Talbot scorched over.

The Talbot made the try of the game, breaking the defensive line to send debutant centre Alan Hockenhull racing 50 metres to the line.

Tries by Steve Prole and Darren Anders completed the scoring.

Gary Talbot took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award, with Hockenhull, Anders, Davies and Mitchell supporting well.
