CHILDREN at St Augustine's Primary in Avenham worked up a sweat during a sponsored aerobathon to raise hundreds of pounds for local charity Heartbeat.

It was all part of a health and safety week organised by Headmistress Bernadette Higgins during which youngsters enjoyed a range of activities and talks by community groups. She said: "More than 180 pupils took part and everyone was involved in the sessions. Some of them are hoping to try the Tai-Chi sessions too!"

Even the school dinner ladies got in on the act setting a competition to find the healthiest meals.
